The Ministry of Defence (MoD) today categorically denied there was any truth to the story that hackers have taken over one of Britain's military satellites

"The story is completely off the wall. Hackers can't and have not accessed our satellites. It is impossible for a hacker to get into the system," a spokesman said.

The spokesman believes the story has been confused with a current Scotland Yard investigation. "The Fraud Squad are investigating a hacker who is accessing international sites, but it has nothing to do with the MoD," he said.

Scotland Yard was unavailable for comment.
