News Burst: AMD cuts 800MHz price by 29 percent

Advanced Micro Devices this week slashed prices by up to 29 percent on its Athlon processor.

The chip maker reduced the price of its 800MHz Athlon processor by 29 percent, from $849 (£518) to $599, making the chip's per 1000 cost $47 lower than competitor Intel's 800MHz Pentium III chip. AMD also cut prices on its 750MHz Athlon by 29 percent. It is now priced at $489.

Remaining Athlons were reduced by between 21 and 25 percent. AMD also reduce prices by as much as 40 percent on its desktop K6-2 processors.
