Chip makers drop prices

AMD Athlon and Intel Pentium III prices each fell much as 31 percent. AMD's largest Athlon price cut came on the Athlon 600MHz. It fell 31 percent, from $419 (£259) to $289 (£179).

Intel's largest Pentium III price cut reduced the 550MHz Pentium III chip 31 percent from $348 to $241. Intel also dropped prices on its 750MHz Pentium III by 7 percent to $744 and 733MHz Pentium III by 21 percent to $594, while AMD's Athlon 750MHz fell 14 percent to $799 and 700MHz Athlon 26 percent to $519.
