Intel has completed its first public demonstration of Bluetooth hardware and software technology.

The demonstration showed two notebooks synchronising data wirelessly over Bluetooth. It utilised Intel's radio module, codenamed Ambler, and a software suite. This suite contains all the components needed to Bluetooth-enable PCs and notebooks including driver software, control software and support for application interfaces.

A spokesman for Intel said that although it was too early to reveal a Bluetooth product roadmap, it expects to begin commercial rollout of this and other Bluetooth products by "mid to late 2000".

The company, one of the nine in the Promoter Group of the Bluetooth SIG, is firmly committed to full integration of the technology in its products. A spokesman for Intel said "our target over the next two years is to get the cost adder of integrating Bluetooth down to $10."
