Sun boots Solaris on Itanium hardware

Sun Microsystems said Monday that it is running Solaris on Intel's Itanium hardware and expects to ship the operating system the second half of next year.

Sun claims to be the first OS developer to use its own internally developed compiler for the boot rather than Intel's generic compiler.
