The company said the products would be renamed, and Compaq personnel working on the software will be transferred to Axent. Financial details of the deal were not released.

Axent has agreed in return to port versions of its Raptor Firewall and Virtual Private Network products to Compaq's Tru64 Unix for enterprise environments. Compaq, which has worked with Axent since 1996, will also resell and support Axent's products.

Compaq agreed in June to sell an 83 percent stake in the AltaVista service for $2.3bn worth of stock in CMGI -- a deal that gave Compaq a 16.4 percent stake in the Internet investment firm.
