Oh my God it's soooo fast

Nuggets has gone a bit CD drive mad lately but I thought you'd like to hear about this one.

The CD-R58S CD-R from Teac drive writes at speeds of up to 8x. Which is pretty damn fast.

To put it in context it means you'll be able to burn an average length CD in around 9 minutes. Reading speed is 24x, no suprises there, and it's got a whopping 4MB of buffer memory. As with Teac's last drive you can set recording speeds to be 8x, 6x, 4x, 2x or 1x. With this model Teac has introduced the Running Optimum Power Control System -- long name for a simple device.

The bundled software is Adaptec's ever reliable Easy CD Creator and Direct CD. As always the desire for speed is going to cost you, £289+VAT, but Teac will throw in a couple of CD-Rs to soften the blow.
