A vibrating phone is the latest offering from Ericsson

The T18 is the first phone in Ericsson's upcoming T-series range -- "small and smart phones with beautiful design" -- as opposed to massive, dumb, ugly phones I suppose. The T18's got all the usual features and Ericsson's trying to tempt you by offering it in three colours, Granite Grey, Juniper Blue and Maple Red in marketing speak. You get voice dialling, with space for up to ten names in the phone's memory. A silent vibrating alert stops you driving people mad in the cinema and the active flip connects and ends calls when opened and shut. What else do you need to know? Well it's dual band (GSM 900/1800), measures 105x49x24mm, weighs 146 grams, and has 4 hours talktime and 100 hours standby. Not all that groundbreaking then, but I have to say it does look rather sweet.

It will cost £99 and is available in the next two weeks.

Put simply, what is the compelling reason to pay ~$200 extra for an Eee with Windows XP? A Windows Eee won't come with any useful applications and you'll have to buy anti-virus software to boot. The truth about low cost computing is that nobody really cares whether the machine is running Windows or Linux as long as its cheap, its easy to use and it works.
