Another name and shame campaign for Y2K laggards

Margaret Beckett, leader of the House of Commons confirmed that the Audit Commission will publish details of local government preparedness in the spring of 1999. In October, Action 2000 confirmed it was considering a similar policy for companies that fail to meet millennium compliance on time.

Some local government bodies are falling short of the Audit Commissions benchmark for Y2K compliance and Peter Wilkinson, director of corporate resources for the Audit Commission admitted that "things may not run as efficiently as they should" if worst case scenarios come true on millennium weekend.
