PCs based on Intel's 233MHz Pentium II chip are expected to cost between £1,500 and £2,000, according to sources at Elonex and IBM.

An Elonex Pentium II-based system with 32Mb RAM, 4Mb video RAM, 15-inch monitor, 16-speed CD-ROM drive and Windows NT 4.0, will cost between £1,500 + VAT and £1,700 + VAT, according to Demetre Cheras, systems director at Elonex UK.

An IBM spokesman suggested that Pentium II PC pricing would be similar to existing IBM 200MHz Pentium MMX PC pricing. That puts a PC350 with 32Mb RAM, 256K cache and a 2.5Gb IDE hard drive at £1,560 + VAT, while an Aptiva Pentium 200 MMX machine with 32Mb RAM and a 3.1Gb hard drive costs £2,084 + VAT.
