Digital says that the move is a continuation of existing development plans rather than a response to the forthcoming merger with Compaq.

The new range, called PC 3500, features Pentium II chips at 233, 266 and 300MHz, and some network management software. Like all of Digital's ranges, it is to be targeted at the corporate sector.

The higher-end 5510 series will now feature a 333MHz version of Intel's top-of-the-line 'Deschutes' Pentium II, due later this month.

Tom Roberts, Digital's product marketing manager for desktops, says that it's 'business as usual' for the company's PC line, despite speculation that it will be culled in the wake of Compaq's £9.6 billion takeover.
