Another Apple legend returned to the sinking ship yesterday with the news of Steve Wozniak's appointment to the firm's Executive Committee to advise chairman Gilbert Amelio. Wozniak, or 'Woz' as he is affectionately known by Mac afficionados, rejoins old colleague Steve Jobs who will fulfil a similar role.

Apple also confirmed that it plans to "streamline" sales, marketing and research teams but declined to comment on stories that it will cut 20 per cent of staff. The firm also stayed tight-lipped on reports that it will sell off its Newton PDA division.
