Sony has joined the growing list of manufacturers utilising Intel's MMX technology with the launch of its PCV-100 and PCV-120 desktop PCs. It has also launched a 17-inch multimedia display.

The multimedia systems also incorporate ATI's Rage II 3D graphics chip. A 16-speed CD Rom is available as standard as well as a 33,600bps DSVD modem. There is also a choice of 2.5Gb and 3.8Gb hard drives. Sony promises to build-in DVD-Rom drives when they become available, as well as offer 17-inch displays. The PCV-100 has been priced at $1,999 while the PCV-120 is around $2,399.

The Sony Trinitron 1-inch display has a built-in three speaker system including two 3.5 watt speakers, a 10 watt sub-woofer and a three level Bass Boost. The digital multiscan technology used in the CPD-220VS display supports resolutions up to a maximum 1,280 x 1,024 at 60Hz.

UK pricing for the systems and monitors have yet to be confirmed.
