ICL reorganises services divisions

ICL has rejigged its services divisions and formed one services umbrella under which services division CFM, ICL Network Services and ICL Education and Consultancy have been put under the charge of network services MD Nigel Hartnell.

The rejig is part of the company's on-going re-structure to become a systems and services company and follows the sale of D2D to Celestica. ICL has made no secret of the fact it would like a stock market flotation in about three years. It believes that trimming the number of its subsidiaries and concentrating on systems and services will lead it back into the black.

"The company has to establish a track record of profitability to achieve that flotation goal," said company spokesman John Cheetham, who added the recent rejig was part of a regular internal reorganisation that happens every January. "It's not too radical," he added.

Industry analysts have also raised eyebrows over the future of the ICL Sorbus subsidiary as CFM has taken over the running of distributed systems and managed services operations. Cheetham said that ICL is keeping the ICL Sorbus name and will use the division to concentrate "primarily on maintenance of multi-vendor hardware and software." Cheetham added there were no plans to sell-off ICL Sorbus and remained tight-lipped about the company's forthcoming results.
