"Sales in 166MHz and 200MHz Pentium multimedia machines with 16Mb RAM, 2Gb drives, and eight-speed CD-ROM drives, which sell for around £1,200 to £1,400 are very popular this year", said Annette Condon, Dell Direct's PR and events manager.

"We haven't actively gone after consumers," said Ben Reeve, product marketing manager for Dell's Dimension range. "But they've actually phoned us up themselves. Sales are definitely up this year." He added that modems and the Internet have, predictably, driven sales to a large degree. "The Internet's more popular than ever before."

Dell Direct can be contacted by telephone on 01344-720000.
