AMD hatches K6 plans

"It's just another one of those things they're piling on because they're so dominant," said Richard Baker, AMD's European marketing manager for PC products. "It's not going to hurt us. If anything it will help us as we often hear that customers don't want to advertise the AMD brand for fear of losing Intel funds."

AMD recently released versions of its K5 processor that match 120MHz and 133MHz Pentiums for performance. Next week, the firm is expected to show its K6 processor at the Microprocessor Forum held October 21-24 in San Jose, California. The chip is expected to ship in the first half of 1997.
