The UK's second largest cable operator will use Manchester and other areas of the north west in the November tests for the speedy technology. 200 Motorola CyberSURFR modems will be used in the field in preparation for a full commercial launch by March 1997.

The service will be aimed at users of multimedia online services, remote LAN access, and other applications that would benefit from broadband technology. Motorola claims the CyberSURFR will support speeds of up to 10Mbits/sec downstream and 768Kbits/sec upstream.

Nynex CableComms can be contacted by telephone on 0181-873 5244.
