IBM probe detects an atom's charge

A development in nanotechnology at IBM's Zurich Research Lab shows a new level of sensitivity in measuring subtle forces among atoms. Scientists there have come up with a way to distinguish positively charged atoms from those that are neutral or negatively charged.
