Andrew Chen, director of research at Intel, answers questions about exploratory research programs like the ones displayed on Wednesday in Santa Clara. Long-term research at Intel can move into some very different directions from the company's core business, but Intel thinks it's necessary to fund such research in order to keep on top of changes in technology and how people want to use technology, Chen said.

While full medical records may be of (dubious) value at rear/base medical facilities, these could be provided much simpler by either physical disk or electronic transfer to an "in theatre" database for individuals posted in. That £80m (and it's associated running costs) could have been far better employed in resuscitating a disbanded infantry battalion or providing a big boost in equipment quality and quantity.
