Big Blue founds RFID lab in Japan

Vendors in Asia are avidly drumming up support for radio frequency identification technology.
The latest move comes from IBM, which today announced the setting up of an RFID Solution Centre at its Yamato Laboratory in Kanagawa, Japan.
The facility, which will be Big Blue's second globally, is targeted at manufacturers and retailers keen to harness RFID technology for product tracking and inventory control. It will allow clients to conduct simulation tests.
According to IBM, more such centres are scheduled to open in La Gaude, France and Texas, USA by the end of June.
Last week, NEC joined RFID standards body EPCglobal, having recently forged a partnership with equipment maker Tagsys.
Singapore's Infocomm Development Authority also announced earlier this month a S$10m (£3.2m) plan to promote the adoption and development of the technology.
