As part of its quarterly financial report, Sony announced that -- despite the fact that the group suffered losses for the quarter -- the PlayStation2 continues to enjoy healthy sales worldwide.

Company executives revealed that Sony's games division has shipped 19.5 million units of the PlayStation2 console as of 30 September. It shipped 4.62 million units of the console in its latest quarter and expects to meet its forecasts of 20 million units shipped worldwide by the end of its current fiscal year. In terms of software titles, Sony and third-party PS2 publishers have shipped a total of more than 800 million units to date.
