BT reduces ADSL line rollout to ISPs

BT is to reduce the number of ADSL lines it sells wholesale to other telecoms companies because it cannot handle customer demand, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph Tuesday.

The report quotes Sir Peter Bonfield, BT's chief executive at an all-party committee of MP's last week saying, " We are having problems meeting demand and there will be an order backlog well into next year".

The report suggests that continuing technical and administrative problems are forcing BT to advise service providers that the number of (ADSL) installation slots they were allocated will be drastically reduced from January.

The report adds that some providers are being told they will be reduced from 100 to just 20 installations per day, others that they will get just one or two.
