MP3 launches email marketing for record labels

MP3.com has launched a marketing service for record labels, sending emails to fans touting new music.
The first band to be promoted is VAST, which is signed to Warner Music Group's Elektra entertainment division.
The Singleserving email delivers a streaming full-length radio edit of an artist's single in MP3 format, to consumers, as well as links to the artist or label's web site, a forward-to-a-friend link, radio and MTV request links, and a "buy" button that can be linked to a label-selected retailer, allowing the user to purchase music immediately online.
Specific financial details of the service were not released.
But it demonstrates the increasing thaw in the relationship between the online music site and major labels.
MP3 had been the subject of copyright lawsuits from five major labels. It has so far settled with four -- Time Warner's Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Bertelsmann's BMG, and EMI Group.
A suit with Seagram's Universal Music Group is still pending.
MP3.com closed down 0.188 at 8.438 Wednesday.
