MP3Board sues AOL-Time Warner over Gnutella

MP3Board.com filed a complaint Monday against AOL-Time Warner for responsibility of the file-swapping system Gnutella that was originally developed by AOL's Nullsoft division.

The lawsuit that was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York requests that AOL-Time Warner should be held liable for copyright infringement and damages if Gnutella is found guilty of violating copyright law.

This legal step taken by MP3Board follows charges by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that they have violated copyright law by providing a search engine for downloading thousands of illegal MP3 recordings to systems such as Gnutella.

MP3Board are still holding to the belief that Gnutella is lawful, but are anxious that if the court rules against them, the damages will be split between them and AOL.

While full medical records may be of (dubious) value at rear/base medical facilities, these could be provided much simpler by either physical disk or electronic transfer to an "in theatre" database for individuals posted in. That £80m (and it's associated running costs) could have been far better employed in resuscitating a disbanded infantry battalion or providing a big boost in equipment quality and quantity.
