Visitors to the Millennium Dome will have the option to have themselves shot into cyberspace after having their body digitised by three-dimensional rendering equipment.

The Talk Zone of the dome, which is being sponsored by BT, will feature a number of booths in which visitors will be able to have an "avatar" image of themselves created. They will then be presented with a card containing a personal identifier and be able to download their personal 3D image from a specially created Web site to be located at avatarme.co.uk after the Dome opens.

Avatar rendering software has used to generate a great deal of the special effects for films and computer games, but this is the first time the technology has been made available to the public.
