The UK's first online DVD rental service will launch 1 December.

London based MovieTrak.com will begin by stocking 500 DVD titles, which will be offered for rental at its site for £2.99 for seven days rental.

The service will be available nation-wide and there will be no limit on the number of titles customers can order at one time. Films will be sent out by 1st class post, with a pre-paid, pre-addressed package for return of the film.

Guy Lawler, managing director of MovieTrak.com, said it is able to offer rentals at a low price because the trade price per item is far lower than VHS. "This is a long term venture, and we plan to get several weeks rental out of each film and then resell them as ex-rental," he said.

The company said that it would be stocking all new releases, and would be providing a pre-booking service for customers to order films before they are released. The site will also include reviews of films and DVD players.

The US has a number of successful online DVD rental services.
