Nuggets is a daily update on the latest software and hardware releases provided by our very own gadget man, Mr Justin Pearse. At the end of the month we will provide a roundup of our favourites which you could win in our monthly Nuggets competition.

Heard a rumour about a plan for a new gadget or software? Seen a device on your travels you'd like to know more about? Tell 'Nuggets' and we'll get you the facts.

This week's Region 2 UK DVD Top 10 is as follows:

  1. LA Confidential

  2. Face Off

  3. The Rock

  4. Con Air

  5. Tomorrow Never Dies

  6. Contact

  7. Sphere

  8. From Dusk till Dawn

  9. Goldeneye

  10. As Good It Gets

Release dates have just been set for Armageddon and Trainspotting, both coming out on February 8th. Trainspotting will be an anamorphic disc with animated menus as well as cast and crew biographies. Good news for South Park fans is that the 3rd DVD release for Region 2 will contain five episodes, rather than the four on the US release. If anyone of you want to treat your younger female relatives, you'll be able to get hold of the much-delayed Alice in Wonderland on DVD from January 25th.

While full medical records may be of (dubious) value at rear/base medical facilities, these could be provided much simpler by either physical disk or electronic transfer to an "in theatre" database for individuals posted in. That £80m (and it's associated running costs) could have been far better employed in resuscitating a disbanded infantry battalion or providing a big boost in equipment quality and quantity.
