UK unaffected by Nokia recall of 14m chargers

Nokia has recalled 14 million phone chargers over an electrical shock hazard, but has said the issue does not affect chargers sold in the UK.
On Monday, the Finnish handset giant said it would replace the chargers, made by a third-party supplier, for free. According to Nokia, the plastic covers of affected chargers "could come loose and separate, exposing the charger's internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket".
Nokia said it had identified the issue during a routine quality-control process, and was not aware of any incidents or injuries resulting from the chargers.
The affected charger models are the AC-3E and AC-3U, manufactured between 15 June and 9 August, and the AC-4U, manufactured between 13 April and 25 October. Those who wish to exchange any of these chargers can visit a special charger exchange website that Nokia has set up.
In a statement issued on Monday, Nokia said the affected chargers had different pins and plugs from those sold in the UK, but that any UK users who had bought a charger in another country should visit the exchange website to see if their charger model needed replacement.
