UK health retailer Boots is to trial contactless payments at UK stores.

Customers at 15 Boots shops in London and six in Liverpool will be able to use MasterCard PayPass cards to make contactless payments from the second half of this year.

Boots is working with RBS Worldpay to develop and implement an integrated contactless payment system within the stores.

PayPass cards can already be used to make payments in London black cabs, at Manchester City Football Club and on buses in the Merseyside. There are PayPass trials and rollouts currently underway in 28 countries.

Barclaycard has also fitted contactless payment terminals at national brands throughout the UK, including Coffee Republic, Eat, Pret A Manger and Yo! Sushi.

Barclays and Barclaycard have also announced plans to enable payments via mobile phone to be available on the mass market by 2012.
