Orange launches remote device-management service

Orange has launched a hosted device-management service for business customers.
The Device Management service, unveiled on Wednesday, is designed to let companies remotely manage employees' handsets in-house. IT managers using the system can send updates to a device, lock the device or even wipe it over-the-air if necessary. Password policies can also be remotely enforced.
Specific functionality, such as Bluetooth or the handset camera, can be disabled remotely, and unauthorised phone software can be removed.

According to Anthony Keyworth, Orange Business Services's director of business products, the service is intended to meet a growing need "for organisations to be able to manage their device fleet in a cost-effective and time-efficient way".
On its own, the service costs £3.50 (excluding VAT and data charges) per user per month, but it can also be bundled with the Microsoft Mail from Orange tariff for £9 (excluding VAT but including a 300MB UK data allowance) per user per month.
