Motorola CTO and strategy chief leaves

The head of Motorola's strategy and laboratories has resigned, the beleaguered manufacturer announced at the end of last week.

An internal memo within the company revealed that Rich Nottenburg had "decided to leave Motorola to go back to New York where he is from, to be with his family and pursue new opportunities", a spokesperson told ZDNet.co.uk on Monday.

Motorola Labs will now be headed up by Dan Moloney, the president of Motorola's home and networks mobility business, while chief financial officer Paul Liska will take over the strategy part of Nottenburg's brief.

Nottenburg is the latest in a recent string of high-profile exits from Motorola. In March Stu Reed, the head of its handsets business, resigned at about the same time as chief marketing officer Casey Keller left. Last December the company lost Ed Zander, its chief executive, who was replaced by the current chief executive, Greg Brown. Nottenburg's predecessor as chief technology officer, Padmasree Warrior, also left in December.

Following more than a year of losses, Motorola announced in March that it was to split its mobile devices business and "broadband and mobility solutions" business into two separate companies.
