Apple iPhone buzz hits the UK

One incongruity of the iPhone's presence in the UK market is that it is only a 2G device, relying on EDGE (enhanced GPRS) connectivity rather than the 3G speeds users are now accustomed to.
Pressed on the issue, Jobs revealed that a 3G version is due to appear next year. However, his reasoning for the lack of a 3G radio — 3G chipsets drain too much power, apparently — seemed behind the times in a country where more traditional handset manufacturers such as Nokia and Motorola have been touting the technology successfully for years.
