Avaya and Extreme Networks are to extend their relationship to offer a combined PBX and switch package for SMEs.

Small businesses will be offered Avaya's IP Office PBX and Extreme's Summit edge switches. The two companies have been working closely to make sure their products interoperate.

The combined portfolio will be sold through a two-tier distribution channel, headed initially by global distributor Westcon. Resellers will be offered a reduction on list prices for selling both products together, a saving that could be passed on to customers.

Avaya and Extreme both compete against market leader Cisco in their respective markets, and they believe a partnership approach will extend their market share among SMEs.

The Extreme switches included in the bundle are the Summit 200 (24 and 48 port), 300 (24 port) and X450e (24 and 48 port).
