In the latest twist for customers of Biscit, it has emerged that the internet service provider has gone into administration.

A spokesperson for company insolvency specialist Piper Thompson confirmed it had been appointed as the administrator for Biscit on Monday, and that the search for a buyer is underway. It is believed that potential buyers have already approached the firm.

Biscit's customers have had an uncertain time of late, following service outages and bouncing cheques, and it emerged last week that the ISP was no longer taking on any new customers. The news also comes shortly after the resignation of chief executive Hugh Paterson.

Biscit has also withdrawn from the Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA), and is currently not a member of any arbitration scheme — membership is a mandatory condition for ISPs, which is laid down by the regulator Ofcom.

Last year Biscit became embroiled in a dispute with wholesale provider NetServices over the latter's disconnection of Biscit's acquisition, V21.

Biscit is believed to have in the region of 35,000 business and home broadband customers.
