The price of broadband in the UK took another step downwards this week when BT is cut the price of its Business Broadband package to as little as £19.99 — £5 less than the cost of BT/Yahoo Broadband for the home market, though users of the basic service are not allowed to share their connection between multiple PCs.
The market for the service is the thousands of British small businesses that do not yet use broadband. According to research conducted for BT by the British Board of Commerce, 90 percent of UK small businesses said they do not invest in new technology, citing confusing jargon as the major deterrent.
New customers who sign up for BT Business Broadband will get a download speed of up to 2Mbps for £19.99 a month until 31 March, 2006, along with free connection and router. The service costs £21.99 after the trial period ends, and business must sign up for at least 12 months.
Customers can also receive BT's IT Support Manager and Business Email Plus service free, but only until 31 December 2005.
Premium options include an Unlimited Share system will cost £45 a month. An Unlimited Network, which includes response service guaranteed within 24 hours, will cost £65 a month. The Network Premium service, which includes an eight hour response, will cost £100.
