The latest GPRS handset from NEC will available in the UK within a few months, the mobile manufacturer confirmed on Wednesday.

The e525, which is on display at CeBIT, is aimed at users who want to create and send MMS messages, as well as surf the Internet from their phone. It has a 65,356 colour display and an inbuilt digital camera that can take pictures up to 100Kb in size.

Images taken using the camera -- which has a fixed zoom and a brightness control -- can be sent either as multimedia messages or by email. The e525 also has a second, smaller display on its front, ideal for users who want to take pictures of themselves.

The e525 is also is compatible with WAP 1.2.1.

An NEC spokeswoman told ZDNet UK that the e525 will be available in Britain this summer, from all of the UK's mobile operators. Pricing details are not yet available, but the spokeswoman indicated that the e525 is likely to be at "the top end" of the market.
