Five years ago: Election coverage makes foes of MSN, BBC, ITV

MSN's decision to kick off its MSN News rolling service with a general election-dominated agenda is taking it into a head-on fight for clicks with the BBC and ITV, each of whom have launched Web election sites of their own.

BBC's election 97 site offers breaking news, polls, details of candidates and much more, including a virtual swingometer. ITN's election site offers much of the same fare, a quiz and a virtual studio.
