Fujitsu Siemens joins Pocket PC ranks

Fujistu Siemens has announced its Pocket LOOX handheld computer at CeBIT 2002 in Hannover. The device runs Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 operating system, and is expected to go on sale for £399 ex. VAT in the summer of this year. It will be competing with many other devices of similar specifications, but Fujitsu Siemens is hoping a focus on connectivity will help woo business buyers.
The 175g handheld measures 132x82x17mm. It's based on Intel's Xscale processor, initially the 400MHz version, and has 64MB of RAM. Battery life is expected to be around 12 hours of normal use, although there will be an add-on battery pack available later in the year which should double this time.
Fujitsu Siemens is focussing on connectivity for its handhelds, and the Pocket LOOX features built-in Bluetooth and an optional GPRS adapter. The GPRS adapter also turns the Pocket LOOX into a mobile phone, and has its own battery to avoid shortening the handheld's time between charges. The Pocket LOOX also has a type II Compact Flash slot and an SD slot allowing further expansion, such as an 802.11b wireless LAN adapter.
