Mobile phone chaos for Germany as network buckles

Around five million Germans tried to use their new mobile phones on Christmas Eve, but the network couldn't handle the strain resulting in a communications blackout. More mobile misery is predicted on New Year's Eve as Germans send out their New Year's festive text messages.

Reports say at least 40 million messages were sent on Christmas Eve.
