IBM said Tuesday it was developing a series of chips to connect multiple computer systems and peripherals like hard disk drives, enabling them to work together as a single high-performance server.

IBM said it would base the chips on a technology called InfiniBand, an standard being developed by an industry body called the InfiniBand Trade Association. IBM and chip maker Intel are leading the plan, which has the support of other manufacturers of computers, peripheral equipment and networking gear.

IBM said the InfiniBand standard was intended to make products work more easily together to enhance performance and sharing of data. IBM said it aimed to release the association's final specification later this year and it expected its supporting series of chip products to become available next year.

Shares of IBM closed up 6- on the New York Stock Exchange at 120. The stock has a one-year high of 139-3/16 and a one-year low of 89-3/4.

Could it be that ISP’s are making this out to be a bigger problem than it actually is? We’re a small country with an internet penetration of less than 60%, for every Youtuber there’s someone who only uses the internet to check their emails, more people surf on their mobile handsets than a few years ago. Surely things should even themselves up.
