The Japanese giant's KXL-783A (about £270 + VAT street) connects to notebooks via the Type II PC Card slot and delivers eight-speed (1,200Kbps) performance and an average access time of 180ms. However, the most attractive features are the built-in 3D surround sound output and SCSI-2 interface. The unit can be powered by either six AA batteries or power adapter.

Panasonic can be contacted by telephone on 0500-404041.
