The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game scooped a BAFTA (Interactive) award last night in the Best Online Entertainment category.

The game, which is hosted on BBC Radio 4's Web site, won the award for the quality of its interactive user interface which persuaded judges to favour it over competitors including Spooks game "The Grid", Empire SQ, Forbidden Siren and Shoebox Zoo.

" I think it was to do with Douglas Adams's writing," said Chris Berthoud, interactive editor for BBC Radio 4. "The writing he did for the game was some of his best. People could post their own graphics too so they could feel more closely associated with the game."

The BBC also won awards for Spooks Interactive in the Best Interactive TV category, and for its coverage of England's exit from Euro 2004 which took the Best News coverage slot.

The Judges praised Warner Brothers for its contribution to film -- The Chaplin Collection won Best DVD and thriller Trauma was given top dog status of Best Film for its interactive features.

The Alexander McQueen Web site won a BAFTA in the design category, sound mixer SSEYO miniMIXA won the Best Music award, and Career Wales Online won for Technical and Social Innovation. The children's learning award went to Headline History, and the Interactive Arts prize was given to Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's Frequency and Volume.

West Midlands man Dan Jones picked up the New Talent award for his work on Channel 4's Ideas Factory.
